Bacid Medication - Uses & Side Effects



Generic Name: acidophilus (ah sih DAW fih luss)

Pronunciation: ah sih DAW fih luss

Brand Names: Bacid

Bacidis in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. Bacid affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause anxiety. Bacid acts in a natural way. Lactobacillus, the active ingredient in Bacid, is one of the saprophytic (normal) microorganisms living in the human digestive tract. Acidophilus is also called Lactobacillus acidophilus. Acidophilus has been used to re-establish the normal consistency of bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract (stomach and intestines). There have been instances where herbal/ health supplements have been sold which were contaminated with toxic metals or other drugs. Herbal/ health supplements should be purchased from a reliable source to minimize the risk of contamination. Acidophilus has not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or purity.

Bacid Dosage:

  • 2 capsules 2 to 4 times daily, taken preferably with milk or lactose.
  • For infants or others unable to take capsules, the contents of the capsules may be added to semi-solid food.

Uses of Bacid:

  • Acidophilus may also have uses other than those listed in this product guide.
  • If you are using this product for diarrhea due to antibiotics, do not use for more than 2 days or if you have a high fever unless directed by your doctor.
  • Acidophilus has been used in the treatment and/ or prevention of yeast infections, yeast infections of the mouth, antibiotic-induced diarrhea, and urinary tract infections.

Side Effects of Bacid:

The following side effects of Accolate may includes:

  • Sore throt.
  • Tongue, face; or hives.
  • Closing of your throat.
  • difficulty breathing or tightness in the chest or throat.
  • Skin rash, hives, or severe itching.
  • Tiredness.
  • Weakness.
  • Swelling of your lips.
  • Constipation.
  • Flatulence.
  • Dizziness.
  • Trouble breathing.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Warnings and precautions before taking Bacid:

  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Bacid. Alcohol may increase drowsiness caused by Bacid. It may also increase the risk of seizures.
  • This product should not be used if you have the following medical conditions: allergies to milk/lactose products.
  • Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.
  • If you are over 65 years of age, you may be more likely to experience side effects from Bacid . Your doctor may prescribe a lower dose of the medication.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking acidophilus if you have any other medical conditions, allergies, or if you take other medicines or herbal/ health supplements.
  • Do not take acidophilus without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Drug Interaction:

  • There are no reported drug interactions with Bacid.
  • Before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: antibiotics.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Overdosage:

  • After taking Bacid, If you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately.
  • You may need urgent medical attention.

  • Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly.
  • Symptoms of a acidophilus overdose are not known.
