Celebrex Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Brand name: Celebrex

Pronounced: SELL-eh-breks

Generic name: Celecoxib

Celebrex is prescribed for acute pain, menstrual cramps, and the pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The inactive ingredients in Celebrex capsules include: croscarmellose sodium, edible inks, gelatin, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, povidone, sodium lauryl sulfate and titanium dioxide. Celecoxib is in a class of NSAIDs called COX-2 inhibitors. It works by stopping the body's production of a substance that causes pain and inflammation. Recent information suggests a possible increased risk for heart attack and stroke in patients taking Celebrex. Celebrex, the brand name of the generic drug celecoxib, was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on December 31, 1998, for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
