Yohimbine Medication - Uses & Side Effects
Brand name: Yohimbine
Generic Name: yohimbine (yo HIM bean)
Pronunciation: yo HIM bean
Yohimbine is a centrally acting alpha-2-adrenoceptor blocking agent. It is claimed to be an aphrodisiac . It is also used as a weight loss supplement as it increases noradrenaline (norepinephrine) levels. The drug is pharmacologically well characterized as an alpha2 adrenoceptor antagonist with activity in the central and peripheral nervous systems. Yohimbine provided satisfactory erections in 30% of men compared with 14% with placebo. The benefit is likely to be of clinical relevance, but further work is required to establish this, and to establish how yohimbine compares with other intervention. The combined treatment with subthreshold doses of apomorphine and yohimbine synergised to reverse the inhibition characteristic of exhaustion. Yohimbine awakens the libido and gives an all-round boost to male performance. The higher the concentration of yohimbe extract, the more potent the yohimbe, and the more likely yohimbe side effects will occur.
