Yohimex Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Pronounced: YOE-kon

Generic name: Yohimbine hydrochloride

Other brand name: Yohimex

Yohimex Dosage:

  • 6 mg three times daily has been used to treat impotence.
  • Yohimbine has been given in doses up to 30 mg daily and the German Pharmacopoeia states a human dose of up to 100 mg/day.
  • 0.1 mg/kg may produce stimulant effects.

Uses of Yohimex:

  • Yohimbine is used to treat and diagnose some types of impotence.
  • Yohimbine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
  • It is also used to dilate the pupil of the eye.
  • This drug is sometimes prescribed for other purposes.

Side Effects of Yohimex:

Some common side effects reported with this medicine include:

  • Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath.
  • Increased blood pressure.
  • Dizziness.
  • irritability.
  • Nervousness or restlessness.
  • Skin rash, itching.
  • Dizziness and flushing.
  • A very irregular or fast heartbeat.
  • Tremor (shaking).
  • Skin flushing.

Warnings and precautions before taking Yohimex:

  • Yohimbine should not be used by women. Do not take this medication if you are pregnant or are breast-feeding.
  • Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you are being treated for a psychiatric condition.
  • It is important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits to make sure that this medicine is working properly.
  • The drug is also not recommended for men being treated for a psychiatric disorder.
  • Do not use more of it and do not use it more often than ordered.

Drug Interaction:

  • If you are taking certain drugs with yohimex, then other drugs may decreased or increased and altered the effects.
  • Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
  • Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs.

Overdose:

  • If you are taking yohimex and after taking you feel that the overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately.
  • If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
  • Symptoms of a yohimbine overdose include: increased blood pressure; a fast heart rate; numbness or tingling; runny nose; tremor; anxiety; and confusion or abnormal behavior.
