Sperm Count

Sperm Count is a test (also called semen analysis) that is always advised early in the investigation of subfertility. The test simply needs a sample of semen (the man is given instructions on how to collect the spec-imen), which is sent to the laboratory for examination. The sperm count, and the motility and normality of form of the spermatozoa, are assessed and the seminal fluid is analysed. If the sperm count is lower than normal, a repeat test will be advised 2 weeks later and then another 3 months later as some circumstances (for instance fever! can temporarily reduce sperm production.
