Androgenic Alopecia - Causes, Symptoms & Treatment
Androgenic alopecia is the name given to the male and female pattern baldness or common baldness. Androgenic alopecia causes slow hair loss over a period of many years, usually beginning after the age of 20 or so. Androgenic alopecia is usually passed down through family genetics, and can affect both men and women. Women who suffer from androgenic alopecia tend to lose their hair slowly, causing thin spots, but rarely bald spots. Men with androgenic alopecia, on the other hand, tend to lose their hair from the front of their scalp first, then gradually thin out to the top of their head, ultimately resulting in baldness. Androgenetic alopecia in men has been associated with several other medical conditions including coronary heart disease and enlargement of the prostate, a walnut-sized gland in males that is located below the bladder. Additionally, prostate cancer, disorders of insulin resistance (such as diabetes and obesity), and high blood pressure (hypertension) have been related to androgenetic alopecia. In women, androgenetic alopecia is associated with an increased risk of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is characterized by a hormonal imbalance that can lead to irregular menstruation, acne, excess body hair (hirsutism), and weight gain. Androgenic alopecia, also called Androgenetic alopecia, is the most common form of alopecia and is the result of genetics, aging, and hormonal changes that combine to cause changes in the hair follicle. Androgenic alopecia occurs slowly for many years. It normally occurs from the age of twenty and last for several years. Androgenic alopecia is a kind of heredity disease and could be seen in the family members of the patients. Usually, a woman suffering from androgenic alopecia goes through thinning of the hair and later baldness but without having spot baldness. The common causes of androgenic alopecia are: Androgenic alopecia often runs by heredity, not caused by foods, non contagious and are not the result of nervousness. Androgenic alopecia is due to the hair growing tissue which are sensitive to hormones ; which is due to genetic factors.
